(WJBF) – A Georgia lawmaker from the Augusta area has been fined by the state ethics commission for campaign finance violations.

Representative Earnest Smith has agreed to pay $8000 for violating campaign finance laws more than 90 times.

The Campaign Finance Commission says Smith failed to report dozens of campaign contributions and expenses.

Smith ran for re-election this year, but lost in the Democratic Primary to Sheila Clark-Nelson.

She will take office next month.
