BYRON, Ga. (AP/WSB-TV/WJBF) – An overnight shooting in Byron has left one suspect dead. According to ABC affiliate WGXA,
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent J.T. Ricketson tells local media that a multi-jurisdiction drug task force went at 2:30 a.m. Monday to a home on Highway 42. Officers knocked on the door three times and announced themselves, but no one answered.
Ricketson says the officers went inside the house and an occupant started shooting at them.
GBI officials tell WSB-TV that one of the officers was in surgery Monday morning. His injuries are serious but non-life-threatening.
The other officer was treated at a local hospital and has been released.
One other person who was inside the house at the time is the girlfriend of the suspect, according to the GBI.
A one-month-old girl was also inside the house but was not hurt.
