LINCOLNTON, Ga. (WJBF) — Mikayla Woodard has maintained the highest cumulative GPA in her class the past three years, and this week the Lincoln County soccer star is honored as the WJBF Scholar Athlete of the week.
“It’s really a surprise,” Woodard said. “I’m really excited about it just because I didn’t think I could get this. I play soccer, but I’m not like the best soccer player, I kick the ball around a little bit. I’m just really surprised and excited and shocked.”
Woodard was a 2016 Georgia Certificate of Merit Recipient, an award that recognizes students for their academic achievements. She’s also the president of the Senior Beta and Fellowship of Christian Athletes clubs at Lincoln County.
“It’s exciting to see a child understand what’s important,” Mikayla’s father Andre Woodard said. “We set the bar. We explained to her why it’s important, and she just continues to strive to be the best she can be.”
Mikayla said she plans on following in her mother’s footsteps by pursuing a medical degree in college. She plans to major in biology in order to become a pharmacist.
