Rabid raccoon encountered in Riverwood neighborhood

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – The Columbia County official Facebook page has stated that a raccoon found in the county has tested positive for rabies.

The animal was encountered at a home in Riverwood.

The raccoon was killed by a resident in his backyard early Saturday. The raccoon was shipped for testing on Monday with the results received late Tuesday.

The county suggests all residents stay away from wild animals and make sure their pets are vaccinated.
