1 dead, 1 injured after Burke County crash

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) — One person is dead and another is in the hospital after a Saturday morning crash.

It happened in Waynesboro on Highway 24 near Watkinsville Church Road.

Investigators say the driver, 21-year-old Tavaris D. Holmes, crashed when he lost control of vehicle on a curve.

Holmes and his passenger, Jacob Matthews, were brought to Augusta University Medical Center.

Holmes died at the hospital and Matthews is still recovering.

The Burke County coroner says Holmes was ejected from the vehicle when he crashed.

No word on Matthews’ condition at this time.

Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the crash.

We reached out to the coroner but she has not released the name of the victim at this time.
