Ga. Sheriff reduces sentences for inmates who saved him

POLK COUNTY, (WJBF) – A Georgia sheriff is reducing the sentences of six life-saving inmates.

The men all stepped up to help a deputy when he collapsed while overseeing a work detail in Polk County.


The six inmates opened the deputy’s shirt, removed his bulletproof vest and started doing CPR.


One inmate grabbed the deputy’s phone and called 911.


The sheriff is cutting their sentences by a fourth.


The deputy’s family also cooked the men a special meal.


The deputy is expected to be fine.
