AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – Local prisons have a contingency plan in place for inmates, in case severe weather strikes.

The Aiken County Detention Center has mutual aid agreements, to accommodate prisoners, with neighboring counties and the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

The jail was intentionally not built in a flood zone.

The Sheriff’s Office says moving prisoners across state boarders is a last resort option.
