Augusta Commission approves salary increase

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Looks like Richmond County sheriff’s deputies could be getting a raise.

At a budget work session on Wednesday, Augusta commissioners agreed to a proposal that would provide the sheriff $1.8 million for salary increases.

This nearly doubles the first recommendation, but is still less than what the sheriff requested.

The sheriff has agreed to eliminate 30 vacant positions this year.
