Deadly accident on Gordon Highway at Highland Ave.

 

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – Richmond County deputies responded to a fatal accident on Gordon Highway at Highland Avenue Wednesday morning.

The call came to dispatch at 2:19 a.m.

The accident involved a white Dodge Charger that was traveling west on Gordon Highway when it was struck at the rear of a tractor-trailer stopped at the red light on Highland Avenue.

According to Richmond County Coroner, Mark Bowen, one person was dead and trapped in the vehicle.

The name of the victim was 24-year-old Willie Williams Jr. from the 2600 Block of River Road in Waynesboro, Ga.

Williams was killed instantly and died from the injuries he received in the crash and had to be extricated from the car by the fire department.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:00 a.m.

Speed and alcohol were believed to be a contributing factor for the cash, and there will be no autopsy or toxicology test done on the victim.
