MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. (WKRN) – Officials now say 2 students were killed in Kentucky high school shooting. Nineteen others have been treated for injuries. Of those, 14 were treated for gunshot wounds and five others were treated for other injuries.
MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. (WKRN) – At least one person was killed in a shooting at a high school in Marshall County, Kentucky and the alleged shooter has been taken into custody.
Marshall County Emergency Management said seven people were wounded in the shooting at Marshall County High School in Benton Tuesday morning. Benton is about 120 miles northwest of Nashville.
The school is currently on lockdown while authorities process the scene. A Marshall County deputy apprehended the shooter, according to Kentucky State Police.
WJBF’s sister station, WKRN News 2, learned two 16-years-olds, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old were all injured. At least one of the victims suffered a gunshot wound to the face.
Two of the victims were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.
Witness Mitchell Garland told the Associated Press he rushed out of his nearby business when he heard about the shooting and saw students running for safety.
“They was running and crying and screaming,” he told the AP. “They was just kids running down the highway. They were trying to get out of there.”
Parents working to locate their children have been asked to go to Marshall Middle School in Calvert City, Kentucky, Marshall County High School or Marshall County Hospital.
Detective Jody Cash with the Kentucky State Police said the “situation is no longer active.”
Gov. Bevin released a statement saying, “This is a tremendous tragedy and speaks to the heartbreak present in our communities. It is unbelievable that this would happen in a small, close-knit community like Marshall County. As there is still much unknown, I encourage people to love on each other at this time. Do not speculate, but come alongside each other in support and allow the facts to come out.”
Tuesday’s shooting comes just one day after a shooting at a Texas high school.
BENTON, Ky. (AP) – Authorities are reporting one person was killed and many were wounded in a high school shooting in rural Kentucky.
Gov. Matt Bevin tweeted that it happened Tuesday morning at Marshall County High School.
A shooting suspect was reported in custody.
The community is about 120 miles northwest of Nashville, Tennessee.
